Birmingham City FC.
The club has its origins in the year 1875 turning professional in 1885 and becoming a limited company in 1888. The club did not become known as Birmingham City Football Club until the year 1905 and they moved to the current St.Andrews site the following year to allow for increased crowds. The first time the club reached the F.A. Cup Final at Wembley was in the year 1931 but the club lost to West Brom. However, the highest gate recorded came in the following year in a match against Everton. St. Andrews was badly affected by bombing in the Second World War with the ground taking 20 direct hits from German bombs. Remarkably, the club responded by winning the league in 1946 and making the F .A. Cup Final again. Birmingham City FC was promoted to the First Division in 1954/55. The 1970’s were a period where he club enjoyed a long stint in the First Division only to end with relegation in 1979. There has followed a long period with the club being promoted to the Premier League but then failing to capitalise on the position. Trevor Francis took over as manager in the late 90’s and set about a huge restructuring. More changes of personnel were a sign of the continuing struggle to maintain position and find some consistent form. 2003/4 saw the strategy bear fruit to the extent that the club stayed up. A four year stay ended and the club continues to fight its way back to glory.
